Why We Run

In the early hours of July 23, 2007, two assailants broke in the Petit family home in Cheshire, CT and took the lives of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, 17, and Michaela Rose Petit, 11. Dr. William Petit, Jr. who was bound, badly beaten, and left for dead, was able to escape before the house was set ablaze.
There is no need to describe the details of that day, enough has been written about them. Instead, we want to fill this space with all the good that the Petits shared with this world. Dr. Petit, even in such a time of deep sadness and grief, coined a phrase that inspired not only us, but countless others and has spurred a movement.

"Go Forward with the inclination to live with a faith that embodies action; Help a neighbor, fight for a cause, love your family. I’m really expecting all of you to go out and do some of these things with your family, in your own little way, to spread the work of these wonderful women."

We chose to listen to Dr. Petit, and running is our own little way of helping spread the work that his beautiful family cherished so much. We come in all shapes and sizes; some young, some old; some fast, some not so fast. But, we all lace up our shoes and take to the roads to keep the spirit of this amazing family alive.
